STUFF TO REMEMBER--PART 1

  • Stick to the lesson plan.
  • Don't hesitate to write on the board what is already on the paper.
  • Slow down--for one thing, it will make my writing neater.
  • Be more more organized and neater on board.
  • Don't be afraid to tell students to be quiet.

Well my friend I have some suggestions that helped me:
- Try mental maps on the board so that you do not have to write down the same that you handed in the paper. It may help.
- In order for the board to be neater and organized you can try dividing it into three imaginary areas, the left side you can use for explanation or theory, the middle one for examples or exercises solved by you and help from your class, and the right side you can use for people to come to the board and solve more exercises... or you don't do that?
- You are always on charge of the class and if they don't like it they can leave (or at least I used to tell my students to go run the courtyard and come back, they could not take more than 5 minutes, and if they did they would have zero for that class regarding conduct, so they all behaved. Besides whenever they were too loud, the fact that they say me waiting for them with a really serious and blank face scared them, so they tended to keep quiet or try to hush others quiet..
Perhaps I was too much of a B-C-D* or at least that is what my boyfriend says, too much of a "guillotine"... (and of course the fact that my name is guillermina does not help ;)
